Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully I am able to answer most of your pre-booking questions right here.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Being a highly sought after specialist photographer, I am generally booked out up to 6 months in advance so it is important to book in at your earliest convenience. Most women book in after they have had their 12 week scans, generally while still in their second trimester.

How do I know what date to book for if my baby hasn't arrived yet?

I get asked this question a lot and its completely understandable. I only take on a limited number of bookings each month to allow flexibility for early and late arrivals. To secure a spot, we will make a tentative booking of your due date, then when baby arrives you'll just need to let me know as soon as possible so we can then schedule in your session within the first 2 weeks. No actual sessions are booked in until your baby arrives, however when securing a spot for a newborn session, you are guaranteed a session whether you deliver early or late.

Can I include my partner & other children in my newborn session?

Absolutely! I always encourage these shots as I believe these are some of the best images that will be cherished by your family in the years to come. I also do not charge extra for these.

Do I need to bring anything with me to my session?

No, as I provide all of the little outfits, tiebacks, headbands, bonnets, wraps and props. You are welcome to bring sentimental items along for me to incorporate into your session though.

For maternity sessions, I have a large range of beautiful maternity gowns for you to use at no extra cost. Just be sure to bring along a white and nude set of lingerie.

How long does a newborn session go for?

I always allow up to 3 hours as this allows time for feeding and settling as needed. On average though, I can get through a newborn session within 1.5 - 2 hours if your baby isn't too fussy.

Are you up to date with immunisations?

Yes absolutely! I have been vaccinated against whooping cough along with regular flu shots as I take the safety of new babies very seriously!

Why is newborn photography so expensive?

Our Costs
A professional photographer would have spent thousands of dollars on equipment such as full frame DSLR camera's and high quality lenses to ensure you get tack sharp professional standard images.

Then there is the cost of outfits, tiebacks, bonnets, wraps and props. The quality of these items will show in the final images, so be sure to check the quality of photos along with the type of outfits and props used when looking for a professional photographer.

We then have ongoing costs for CRM software, Adobe Photoshop and client gallery platforms just to name a few...

Time
It's not as simple as taking photos and delivering them to our clients as some people may assume. Newborn photography takes a lot of skill and patience in order to keep babies settled throughout their sessions, along with knowing how to safely pose them into the perfect curly positions. Then there is the editing process which can be quite time consuming when it comes to newborns as there is a lot involved to get that perfect creamy skin as most newborns have a lot of redness, dry flaky skin, milk pimples and sometimes jaundice.

Specialists
Newborn photography is a specialist field and is not as easy as putting a baby down and clicking away. I am a specialist in posed newborn photography which I also teach both in Australia and internationally to other aspiring newborn photographers through newborn photography workshops. There are MANY things that contribute to a smooth newborn session and although someone may have been a photographer for many years, does not mean that they will be a successful newborn photographer and know how to keep babies settled during a session in order to safely pose them.

Service
To put it simply, you get what you pay for. Not only are you paying for images of your precious new bundle of joy, but you are also paying for the service provided by your photographer. I make the whole booking process from start to finish a flawless process, along with ensuring that you have a memorable time during your session. My clients love the fact that they can sit back and relax for a few hours while I do all of the settling and hard work taking some of the stress away from them that comes with having a new baby, in fact I see a lot of dads taking a nap on my studio couch because of how relaxed they are!

Investment
Look at newborn photography as an investment as these are moments you and your child will cherish forever. Unless you have had previous children, you won't realise just how quickly they change and grow before your eyes. Before you know it, they will be running around and these images are the only memories you will have showing just how perfect your baby was as a newborn.
